Hint of the Day: Revisit what you already have done. I recently taught a class...
I recently taught a class at the library and was discussing how it is important to document your sources. Many of started our family story in such a hurry we didn't bother to document where we got the information.
Many of my students were new to genealogy but one in particular was not too thrilled about going back through her tree because she has quite a substantial amount "done". Which I completely understand!
As time permits I have started to go back and redo my original work on the direct family lines. Now that I have more experience under my belt, I have been finding all sorts of information on the original documents that I hadn't see before. Or if I had seen it, I dismissed it as irrelevant and didn't make note.
I also have been finding news articles online which I had not previously found by searching through newspapers by hand. OCR technology is wonderful!
Make the time to revisit. You never know what you will find!
I have completed my Genealogy Library Services class so can now again start work...
