Vernon United Presbyterian Cemetery
Vernon Township
Waukesha County Wisconsin

Location

This cemetery is located east of the church on the north side of Highway ES (National Ave) Just east of the intersection with Highway F, in the southeast 1/4 of Section 2, Vernon town, Southwest of Prospect.

History

The congregation of this church was first known as the Associate Reformed United Presbyterian Church. First services were held in 1838, but not officially organized until Sept 6, 1847.

Thomas Howie and David Rea donated one acre of land for the church and the cemetery. Although the church was not built until 1857, the cemetery was established in 1855. The first burial was Duncan McNaughton. Before 1855 all burials of the church were in the Vernon Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery (also known as Covanters Cemetery).

John Howie, one of the first three Elders of the church, the Wiers, Mrs. Archibald Stewart and other early members were buried in Covanters cemetery. In 1913 an additional acre was purchased for the cemetery from C. Pilhover. Other piece was added in 1954.

Records

The Cemetery is administered by the Vernon United Presbyterian Cemetery Association. There are cemetery records 1855-date. Records are available for research by appointment only. Mail requests will be answered at no charge. Contact:
