St. Dominics Catholic Cemetery
Brookfield, Brookfield Township, Waukesha County, Wisconsin

Location

This active Catholic cemetery is on the south side of Lisbon Road, west of Imperial Drive and at the south end of Marcy Road, Section 4, Brookfield Township. This is near where the old church stood.

History

The cemetery was established circa 1866 according to the parish records, however, the earliest known burial was in 1847. The Catholic parish was organized in 1854 and a church first built in 1868. It was the first mission church of St. John's Cathedral in Milwaukee, then of St. James in Lannon and of St. Agnes in Butler. In 1856, St. Dominic's became a parish in its own rite.

Records

There are records 1857-date. There are no records at St. Dominic's Catholic before 1857. Records kept during the mission status should have been recorded at the home parish. There were no separate cemetery records kept at St. Dominic's, but there is a map of cemetery plots. The mission home parishes were:

At the Waukesha County Museum there are transcriptons of the tombstones 1847-1979.

Transcriptions

The cemetery was walked and the remaining tombstones were transcribed by Ellen- and Rebecca M. Sept. 2001.

Karen R.(see contributors page for email information) sent in a list of cemetery burials compiled and researched by Albert H. Schneider. I have incorporated this into my own information gathered from the cemetery. The numbers in [brackets] are the Tombstone numbers. GRD in tombstone number stands for flat on the ground. (either it has fallen or it is designed to be a horizontal stone). If a name is listed in brackets, it means it was found on Research by Albert, but not when I did my walk in 2001 or 2002.

This is an alphabetical list of the surnames that are in this cemetery. The list does not include maiden names.

There is a lot of information on the page that follows, please be sure to see Full Cemetery Listing
