Beeston, of Spring Creek, was in town last Wednesday. S. W. Pierce is recovering very slowly from his late serious illness. Clayton Niles is reported lying very ill with pneumonia, at Coloma. Little Glen Keyes, infant son of Judge J. B. Keyes, is very sick this week. Miss Ina Gunning gives a party for her Sunday School class this (Thursday) evening. Clarence Simmons, of Necedah, visited his parents in this village the first of the week. County Superintendent Reynolds, of Plainville, was in town for a few days the first of the week. Mr. David McGowan and wife, of Necedah, are visiting his brother, Dr. W. E. McGowan, in this village. S. S. Landt is moving his family into the house owned by Mr. J. Wilbur, on the corner of Main and Belfast streets. Vernon Niles returned last Tuesday from Kilbourn City and Delton, where he has been spending the holiday vacation. Miss Tilda Holm returned to her school at Westfield last Sunday. She was accompanied by Miss Ella Holm and Ernest Smith. Mr. And Mrs. E. Knight and Mrs. J. B. Hill and two children visited the last of the last week and the first of this week with friends in Arkdale. Under-Sheriff and Mrs. Bingham, of Fordham, have moved into the house with Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Wilbur, in the west part of the city. The Misses Mabel and Grace Woock left on Friday of Llast week for their home in Baraboo, after spending several days with relatives in this village. Friendship High School opened last Monday with four new pupils. They are as follows: Miss Lillie Breene, Admas Center; Miss Kit Rogers, Adams Center; Mr. Filkins, Spring Creek; and Merton Holmes, Friendship. G. W. Waterman last Monday sold his lot on the corner of Belfast and Second streets, 55 feet front, to Samuel Hamilton and Harvey Rawson, of Westfield. Consideration $400. The gentlemen propose to erect thereon a hardware store. The surprise donation for Rev. P. R. Staples, on his birthday, last Wednesday evening, at Gunning's Hall, was a success in every feature. It was a genuine surprise to the Elder, and the affair netted him about $30, over and above all the expenses. From Local Correspondents Plainville Sheriff O. S. Atcherson, Mrs. M. G. Sperbeck and son Fred spent New Years with their brother's family at Friendship. Miss Edna Edmonds returned to Marshfield Monday. Miss Anna Reardon is home on a visit. Harry Barrett has gone to Arpins Mills to work. Millard Girling has returned to Tomahawk. Miss Maud Atcherson entertained several of her friends last Monday evening. A very pleasant dance was held Friday evening at the home of J. C. Edmonds. W. R. Atcherson and daughter Gertie visited a few days in our town. All the landlord could say was 'railroad'. Miss Mamie Rathburne, of Kilbourn, visited with her friend, Miss Maud Atcherson. Some from here attended the funeral of Lafe Johnson at Twin Valley. Lincoln Walter Hutchinson is getting the material ready for a new house which he intends to put up in the spring. Mr. H. A. Merriman lost a valuable sheep last week. Joe Chesky is home from the Dakotas, where he has been at work for the past nine months. The school teacher in district No. 5, Miss Lizzie Stevenson, has gone home for a week's vacation. No school until Jan. 16. Mr. And Mrs. Ed Fenner, of Armenia, Juneau County, are visiting at J. B. Nelson's. J. M. Paddock had the misfortune to lose a piece of horseflesh a few days ago. While on his way to Westfield, in front of S. H. Phelps' store, his horse stumbled and hurt his shoulder, which made it necessary to shoot the animal. Sparks from Roche-a-Cris Messers. B. F. Austin and C. L. Courter visited Friendship on Saturday last. Mrs. Humphery, of Pardeeville, sister of B. F. Austin of this place, spent the holidays with her brother's family. Miss Carrie Courter has returned to her work at Coloma Station after a two weeks' sojourn among friends here. Fred and Lissa Gardner visited friends at Spring Bluff on Saturday and Sunday last. Mrs. Jane Wait, of Friendship, spent several days last week with her parents, Mr. And Mrs. C. L. Courter of this place. Mr. Fred Hamilton returned to the pinery last week, having recovered sufficiently from the slight injury received there to again resume work. Miss Christine Peterson spent the holidays with her sister, Mrs. R. P. Holmes. White Creek There was a party at F. M. Jenck's last Saturday evening in honor of the eighteenth birthday of their daughter, Minnie. A.J. Henry, of Easton, was in town Tuesday. Mrs. Connell has been summoned to Tomahawk, where her daughter, Lizzie, is lying very sick. Miss Maggie Marden and Alvah Austin, after spending their vacation at home, have gone back to school at Endeavor.
