Mr. H. L. WHIPPLE, of Preston, lost a fine cow on Wednesday of last week.

Mr. S. A. FOSTER and wife, with their sister, Miss Katie HILL, left this village
last Monday morning for Mr. F.'s home in Iowa, Many good wishes followed them.

Last Saturday was the day appointed for parties to meet and haul stone for the
foundation of the new Catholic church. But owing to causes which we have not
learned not so many came as was anticipated, and considerable disappointment was
expressed on the part of some who were interested. Of those who came and did
efficient work with their teams we have been given the names of M. J. MERRILL
and son, John RYAN, Michael RYAN, Michael PRATT, and Andrew COSTELLO.

The Press office is indebted to Hon. T. O. HOWE of the Senate, and Hon. Thad. C.
POUND of the House, for valuable public documents.

Personal.-The day and a quarter term of the Circuit Court brought quite a crowd
of people here from all sections of the county. The number of attorneys from
abroad was very small.  We only noticed present, P. G. STROUD, of Kilbourn City;
John TURNER, of Mauston; H. H. TAYLOR, of Oxford.

Circuit Court.-The June term of the Circuit Court for 1878, proved to be the shortest
ever held in this county. There were the meager number of twelve cases only on the
calendar, and but one of these was a jury case. The calendar had but one criminal
case on it, and that was continued to the next term. The court convened at one o'clock
Tuesday afternoon, and disposed of the calendar by four o'clock Wednesday.
The taxpayers are to be congratulated; but this showing doesn't indicate that this
county is much of a paradise for lawyers.

"On with the Dance!"-Our friend G. B. BACON proposes to have an "Independence Ball"
at his House in White Creek, July 4th. Music by Wright's Band. All know the excellent
style of doing things at the BACON House under the present management, and we hop and
expect George will have a big party on the Fourth.
