Local Brevities -Harry PIERCE visited Necedah on Monday last. -Mr. PADDOCK, of Richfield, was in town on Monday. -Misses Lena and Gertie PAULSON have a new bicycle. -Services were held at the Catholic Church last Tuesday. -Mr. and Mrs. G. W. BINGHAM visited Necedah on Monday last. -Roy WRIGHT visited Grand Rapids last Friday, returning Sunday. -Mr. and Mrs. W. R. ATCHERSON went to Kilbourn Tuesday evening. -Mr. THOMPSON, of Grand Marsh, was a business caller in Friendship last Tuesday. -H. A. HOWARD, of White Creek, was a visitor in Friendship on Monday of this week. -Mr. and Mrs. Frank McLAUGHLIN, of Richfield, were guests at Wm. HOPPER's on Sunday last. -Memorial services will be held at the Congregational Church one week from next Sunday, at the usual hour. -Hiram BINGHAM left last Sunday evening for West Superior, where he expects to spend the summer. -Cliff. A. WALKER, of Plainville, visited Friendship last Tuesday and transacted business in the county offices. -A. INGRAHAM, of the town of Rome, came down to the county seat on Tuesday, looking after some landed interests. -Charley SNIDER, of Big Spring, visited with his brother-in-law, Register of Deeds McCONICK, on Monday and Tuesday last. -Rev. J. A. THOMAS will preach next Sunday, May 23, at Buckhorn schoolhouse at 3 p.m., and at Pleasant Prairie at 7:30. -Mr. and Mrs. T. B. COON, of Kilbourn, visited Friendship on Monday and Tuesday last, returning home Tuesday evening. -A. F. STOWELL and Dr. LISTER, of White Creek, were in attendance at Masonic Lodge in this village, last Saturday evening. -Mr. Henry ZWICKER, of Stoughton, visited over Sunday with friends in this village, incidentally trying his luck with the hook and line. -Jack McCAUSTLAND, of Quincy, accompanied by a young friend by the name of Buck, a sketching artist, from Chicago, were Friendship visitors the fore part of the week. -Miss Irene WILBER who spent the winter with friends in Western Springs, Ill., and luxuriating with the whooping cough and measles in the meantime, is reported as rapidly convalescing. -Mrs. J. A. WILBER, started on Tuesday for a visit with friends at Chicago, Amboy and Western Springs, in Illinois, and also with friends in Michigan. Mr. WILBER accompanied her as far as Kilbourn. -Mr. A. L. CAVES, of Richford, was in Friendship last Tuesday, and made the Press office a call. Mr. CAVES will read the Press hereafter and so cultivate a closer acquaintance with his Adams county neighbors. -Chris, the "only Chris.," SCHNEIDER, chairman of the town of Monroe, gathered himself unto Friendship last Tuesday, but whether it was to take in the tax sale, or to "sell the other fellow" the record saith not. -Ex-Marshall Peter MITCHELL, of Plainfield, visited Friendship last Tuesday and dropped in for a brief chat with the editor. Mr. MITCHELL was a comrade in the 38th Wis. Regiment, having been one of the boys of Company E. -S. S. LANDT, Superintendent of the Sparta School for Dependent Children, visited Friendship last Friday. He brought a boy about 13 years of age from the school who will hereafter have a home with Joseph PFLAGER of the town of Preston. -Mrs. Olaf MARTINSON died at her home in Strongs Prairie last Tuesday morning, of consumption, after a long illness. Her neighbors and acquaintances speak of her as a gentle and amiable woman who bore her long sickness with patience and fortitude. (Page 4, column 2) -Last Friday was the regular meeting of Badgero? Post G. A. R., and W. R. C., and brought quite few comrades and their families into town. The W. R. C. received three applications for membership, which shows that that body is increasing in membership. Local Correspondents Quincy -Two boys from White Creek came hunting on Quincy bluff last Sunday night and got lost, but were taken in by one of the good neighbors and kept until daylight. When they were seen joyfully wending their way homeward. Look sharp, boys; rabbits are plenty. -The telephone is a surety. Hurrah! -Mrs. REINE is slowly recovering from her recent illness. -Mrs. METEYARD visited with Mrs. John AVERY the first of the week. -Mrs. AVERY visited her sister last week, and enjoyed a pleasant time. -Mr. and Mrs. CULLICKSON attended the Woodmen party at White Creek, last Saturday night. -Grandpa AVERY is quite poorly again. -Our school in district No. 3, is progressing finely, under the care of Miss Mabel PISHION. -A rumor of a wedding in the church here soon. A Citizen New Chester -Everybody is getting ready to plant corn. -A good rain is needed here to start feed. -James ROBERTS and wife, of Westfield, visited friends here last Sunday. -Frank Bloss visited friends at Davis Corners last Saturday and Sunday. -The measles have been the rage here this spring, but nearly all are over them. -Mrs. J. G. GERTH had the misfortune to fall and break her arm last week. Dr. CHILSON, of Oxford, is attending her. -The Bloss school is progressing finely with Frank PIERSON as teacher. -Fred. MILLS and wife, of Douglas Center, visited relatives here over Saturday and Sunday. -Miss Eliza BEALS, of Lincoln, is working for Mrs. GERTH. -G. E. BLOSS had a horse badly cut on a wire fence last week. Useless White Creek -May baskets are in style now. -Decoration Day will be observed at this place on Monday, May 31. A fine program is being prepared, and everybody is requested to come and make the day pleasant for our brave soldier boys. The Memorial sermon will be preached at the church Sunday, May 30, by Rev. A. C. MARDEN. -Miss Alice BERGMON spent Sunday with her mother. -Mr. Fred BATTY was in town Sunday. -The Woodmen supper was well attended and everyone enjoyed a social time. -Mr. Clifford SITTSER was calling on friends the last of the week. -Mr. HOWARD is painting the hotel, which is a great improvement. Pansy -The Ladies' Aid Society met with Mrs. MARDEN last Thursday. -Tommy WILSON and Elmer JENCKS attended church at Adams Center last Sunday. -Forest METEYARD and wife will spend some months visiting relatives and friends at Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls, this summer. -The people of White Creek are anxious for some one to put in a cane mill in our town. -Mrs. WITT is on the sick list. -Three cheers for the telephone! -Miss SMITH., of Big Spring, spent last week visiting with her uncle, J. W. WILSON, and her cousins. -The Woodmen Lodge entertained their lady friends last Saturday evening. All unite in saying they enjoyed it very much. -Easton and White Creek boys are enjoying a social game of base ball once a week. -Stephen HOWARD and his mother were calling on friends at Easton last week. -Mr. and Mrs. George NEFF visited at H. A. HOWARD's last Sunday. -Miss Alice BERGMON spent Sunday at home with her mother. -Rev. TURNER, of Kilbourn, spent last week in our town. He was accompanied by a young gentleman, Mr. SHERMAN. They were the guests of Mrs. M. E. AUSTIN. -Mr. MONTIETH spent a couple of days last week with friends in our town. -Tommy WILSON will go north soon to look for land and a pleasant location to farm in. We are in homes he will come back to Adams county, as we do not want to lose our best young farmers. -Mr. and Mrs. JENCKS have returned to their home at New London. A. M.
