That is nice for Jim. -Remember BARBOUR's date, January 18th, to remain one week. -Mrs. William HOPPER visited friends near Coloma the latter part of last week. -Under-Sheriff Ernest SMITH visited Kilbourn Sunday, returning home Monday. -D. McGREGOR and P. McDONNELL, of Colburn, were Friendship visitors last Wednesday. -The young people enjoyed a pleasant dancing party at WILLAMS' Hall, last Friday Evening. -Hon. J. W. GANNING returned Monday from his visit at Wasaukee, Chicago, and Milwaukee. -Mrs. Frank McCONICK and little daughter, Irma, visited last week with relatives in the town of Jackson. -The Ladies' Aid Society meets with Mrs. S. W. PIERCE this (Thursday) evening. You are cordially invited to be present. -Harry PIERCE returned to Stevens Point Monday, after spending a two weeks' vacation with his parents in this village. -Sheriff Harry BARRETT, of Plainville, was a visitor at the county seat the first of this week, and a caller at the Press office. -Miss Tillie HOLM returned to Whitewater Sunday, after a week pleasantly spent with relatives and friends in this village. -Fred. WILBER left last Friday for Duluth, after spending several weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph WILBER, in this village. -Regular meetings of Badgero Post G. A. R. and W. R. C. on Friday of this week. The newly elected officers will be installed at this meeting. White Creek -Stephen HOWARD, who spent the holidays at home, returned to Milwaukee Monday. -A few of the young ladies of the O. M. S. met with Miss Minnie JENCKS on Saturday afternoon. -Mrs. Belle STOWELL has been appointed school clerk. Dr. LISTER resigned. -Mrs. JENCKS was called to Lodi by the serious illness of her granddaughter, Mrs. Harvey. Her son, Elmer, accompanied her. -The Leap Year Ball was a great success. Everyone enjoyed themselves, especially the girls. Forty-four numbers were sold. -Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred HOWARD, December 26, 1896, a son. -Miss Jessie WALRATH returned to Medford Saturday. -Miss Kittie WALRATH has been sick for the past week. Her sister, Verma, took her place in the schoolroom at Quincy. -Miss Adda MOORE has been visiting her friends in Quincy for the past week. -School commenced Monday, after a week of vacation, with a full attendance. Prin. A. VANDERBILT spent his vacation in Portage, and the assistant, Miss BILLINGS, at her home in Olin. -Miss Etta KELLEY, of Kilbourn, called on friends in this place, Thursday and Friday. Miss Giddy GADDY -A. F. STOWELL and Alfred HOWARD visited Oxford last Saturday. -John FISHER spent New Year's Day with his grandmother, Mrs. C. E. REED. -Mr. and Mrs. HUNGERFORD spent New Year's with the lady's parents, Mr. and Mrs. WINTERSTIEN. -Sam CUMMINGS and Clarence WINTERSTIEN came home to spend their vacation. -A new street lamp will now show people where Dr. LEISTER resides. -R. MONTIETH was calling on old friends last Saturday. -Lenna LEWIS spent her vacation with her sister, Mrs. A. F. STOWELL. Glen -Frank ROBINSON has been quite sick, but is better at the present writing. -John FOAT and FOSTER and Arthur BATTY are home from Ripon. -Luella FOAT has a new melodeon. Mr. and Mrs. SHAFER spent New Years with Mr. CHURCHILL's family. -Misses Lissie CRANDALL and PURDY are home from Endeavor for a week's vacation. -Mr. SHAFER is moving back onto his farm. Mr. JENCKS has fifty cords of wood to run the factory with another year. He is a first class wood-chopper as well as a first-class cheese-maker. -Willie SHAFER and Jake OSBORN spent Tuesday and Wednesday at Endeavor. -Ford BATTY spent last week with N. E. ALLEN, at Fox Lake. -Miss Nellie SHAFER is taking music lessons of Mr. WHITE. -Ail WOODRING is expected home from Illinois this week. -Bert FOAT is home from Illinois. He came as far as Kilbourn on his wheel. -Mr. LAPP is spending the winter with his people in Illinois. -Brother Robinson has been holding meetings in the church for the last two weeks. When we see the good that is being done, we do not doubt that he is a man called by God to preach the gospel. -Mr. and Mrs. Churchill have moved back on their farm. We are glad to welcome them back to our neighborhood. -Charlie LAATZ, wife and baby, from Milwaukee, have come to spend the winter with his parents. -Mrs. Clarence FOAT is improving, under Dr. CHILSON's care. Easton -We are all glad to hear hat Grandma GIBBENS is improving -The social held at Mr. SCHOONOVER's was well attended and all report a pleasant evening. -Mr. Stephen HUBER, of Hanover Junction, has been the guest of S. GARTHWAIT for the past week. -William REEVES, of South Dakota, has been visiting his aunt, Mrs. C. NEEDHAM, for the past week. -A. P. DEWEY returned home from New Lisbon, New Year's Day. -Two of our young ladies attended the Leap year party at White Creek, New Year's eve, and report a pleasant time. -Melvin JACKSON has arrived home to visit friends and relatives for a few days. Pat, Dick and Harry -There are some prospects of a cheese factory here in the near future. -Miss Lizzie STEVENSON spent the holidays at home. -Miss Lancy VanPATTEN has been entertaining a visitor from Ft. Atkinson. -The WALTON Bro. are having a bean-thresher attached to their mill. Good thin there is somebody to keep making improvements. -Mrs. D. STEVENSON has improved so much under Dr. LIESTER's care that she is able to walk about this fine weather. -Mrs. E. BIDWELL is expected home soon from Milwaukee, where she has been visiting for some time. -Mrs. Sarah CLELAND and little daughter, Sybil, spent last week with her parents and friends. M. A. N. HUNTER East Jackson -Mr. and Mrs. J. R. VROMAN, Mr. and Mrs. Earl STAFFORD and Mrs. McCONICK and little daughter, Irma, spent New Year's Day with Mr. HAGERMAN's family. Plainville -Mr. and Mrs. B. SHADDUCK visited with their daughters in Kilbourn. -J. SLOCUM's youngest children have the whooping cough. -C. H. BARRETT was in Friendship Monday on business. -James LENT is laid up with a severe attack of rheumatism. Adams County Agricultural Society S. W. PIERCE, President of the Adams County Agricultural Society, and Ezra KNIGHT, Secretary of the Adams County Agricultural Society, being severally duly sworn, depose and say that said Adams County Agricultural Society at the Annual Fair held by said Society, on above dates, prohibited and excluded from its fair grounds and all adjacent lands under its authority, all gambling and gambling devices whatsoever; during the time said fair was held. Said affiants further depose and say that the above report of receipts and disbursements has been compared with the books and records of said society. Notice for Publication Land Office at Wausau, Wis., December 17, 1896 Notice is hereby given that the following named settler has filed notice of his intention to make final proof in support of his claim, and that said proof will be made before the judge or clerk of the circuit court at Friendship, Wis., on February 8, 1897, vig: Benjamin BEALS, who made H. K. No. 6343, for the W1/2 NW1/4 and W1/3 8W ¼ Section 28, Town 16 N, R. 7E. He names the following witnesses to prove his comtinuous residence upon and cultivaton of said land, vis: Daid EDDY, Orange HARTSON, James ROBERTS and David McCLYMAN, all of New Chester, Wis. Louis MARCHETTE, Register.
