Local Brevities -Mrs. E. KNIGHT visited friends at Arkdale several days last week. -C. H. SCHNEIDER, of Monroe, was a caller at the Press office last Monday. -Mr. and Mrs. John OSGOOD of Garden City, Minn., are guests at the home of N. M. JONES. -Mr. and Mrs. HERRICK, of Richfield, and Mat MIX, of California, were guests at Wm. HOPPER's one day last week. -E. B. This is equivalent to nearly one teacher for each school district in the county. -Caldwell had a sheep about a year old which is a great curiosity, the sheep having two mouths. When it eats or drinks with one mouth the other goes through the same motions. He will exhibit it at the Fair this fall-Montello Express. -At the meeting of the Ladies' Aid Society at the home of Mrs. J. A. THOMAS on Thursday afternoon of last week, the attendance was as large as at any meeting ever held by the Society, and a pleasant time was enjoyed by all present. The proceeds were $5.80. -The conductors of the summer school, Messrs. C. W. SMITH of Kilbourn, and M. H. JACKSON of Columbus, have already won the front in conducting the work of the school. Both gentlemen are capable of attracting and holding the closest attention of the classes-and of each individual in them-to the subject matter being considered, and to so present it that reception of instruction is made an interesting pleasure rather than a task to be accomplished. The remarks of those attending and of visitors show that never in the history of summer schools in this county has so absorbing interest in the studies been aroused. An attendant made this remark a few evenings since: "I never saw anything like it. Except for the voice of the conductor or the one addressed, you can hear a pin drop at any time." No one can measure the value of work done under conditions of such deep interest, and the teacher who has no part in it, must suffer an irreparable loss. The Summer School The Summer School which is in session at the schoolhouse in this village, under the instruction of Prof. C. W. SMITH, of Kilbourn, and Prof. M. H. JACKSON of Columbus, and Co. Supt.
