Local Brevities
W. T. ATCHERSON, of Plainville, says that the Clydesdale colt, Tom Allen, fractured his thigh
on the 3d of last March, and had a bad time of it, but that he is fully recovered and all right
and in trim now.

County Treasurer HAMILTON finished the sale of lands for non-payment of taxes on Friday last.

We regret to learn that the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. WISE is quite sick. Dr. HARRISON
is attending it.

The town authorities of Rome have put a new and substantial bridge over the Fourteen Mile Creek,
at the Hit-or-Miss.

Honor to be Honest
The following note from T R. FREEMAN is the tribute of an honorable mind to an officer who
conscientiously will discharge his duty:
Olin, 23d May, 1878
Friend PIERCE:--The words of warning given in a recent number of the Press, were timely, and have
been heeded by at least one assessor. Mr. KETCHUM, of this town, has expressed his determination
to discharge his duty fully and fearlessly, though he is looking for considerable grumbling. I
honor a man who, knowing his duty, will discharge it. Who is the next one?
     Truly yours, T. R. FREEMAN
