
Saturday, January 30, 1897 Local Brevities -Are you going to the Benefit Ball? -Bring in your wood in on subscription. We need it. -Supt. LANDT, of Sparta, was in town on Wednesday. -Pat and John McDONNELL, of Colburn, are in town this week. -Harry PIERCE was home from Stevens Point a few days this week. -Wm. RISK, of Easton, was a visitor at the county seat on Wednesday. -Paste this in your hat: Thursday evening, Feb. 4, Ganning's Hall. The Concert. -S. W. PIERCE was detained at home this week by the special session of the County Board. -Frank HIGBEE and N. M. Jones represented this rink at the bonspiel at Portage last week. -Joseph KLINDERA has moved onto the Banker farm, recently purchased by him of John WURM. -Rev. J. A. THOMAS will preach at the Spring Bluff schoolhouse next Sunday, Jan. 31, weather permitting. -Be sure to attend the auction at North Necedah, Feb. 4, 5, and 6. Several things on the list you want. Don't forget the date. -Johnnie HOPPER has been quite sick, his sickness resulting from an attack of the mumps. His friends will be glad to learn that he is very much improved. -F. M. STAPLES, of Canastota, S. D., grandson of the late Rev. P. R. STAPLES of this place, and son-in-law of J. W. GUNNING, is spending a few weeks with relatives and friends here and at Plainville. -The boys will have bills out in a few days announcing a grand free masquerade at Gunning's Hall, Friday evening, February 19th. Supper at the Niles House, 60 cents per couple. Spectators, 10 cents. Remember the dance is free. Don't Forget The Benefit Ball at Dunn's Hall, White Creek, on Friday evening, February 5th. It is expected that the supper will be contributed by the friends attending, and all ladies and friends are cordially invited to bring baskets of provisions with them. We need no assurance that the ladies will not fail of their accustomed liberality. Tickets for the party are on sale at Hill's Store, Friendship, and with A. F. STOWELL, White Creek. The Special Session The County Board of Supervisors of Adams County convened in special session at the Court House in this village, Wednesday afternoon. They have completed the investigation of the books and accounts in the office of ex-County Clerk C. M. SIMONS, and find the deficiency in his office from the time of the adjournment of the County Board to the time he left the office to be between $500 and $600. The committee are now diligently at work making a thorough investigation of the books and accounts in the office of the county treasurer during the terms of S. S. LANDT, but up to the time of our going to press (late Thursday afternoon) no definite results have been obtained. Pleasantly Entertained Quite a goodly number of the friends of Mrs. H. J. DARTT gathered at her home, without leave and without bidding, on Friday evening, and spent a number of hours very pleasantly. Refreshments were served in the course of the evening. Among those present were Rev. and Mrs. J. A. Thomas, Dr. and Mrs. H. F. FREDRICK, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. ATCHERSON, Mrs. BLISS, Mrs. Nellie PIERCE, and Misses Sarah EDDY and May PIERCE. Auction Auction-Feb. 4, 5 and 6, at North Necedah, at which Lyman Lumber Co. will sell the remainder of their stock in store, and also wagons, Sleighs, horses, scales, etc. etc. Come early. From Our Local Correspondents Glen -Oscar FOAT is quite sick. Dr. CHILSON has been called. -Mr. and Mrs. Harley BEMENT and little daughter, Belle, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. GALE at Wonewoc. -The debate has been changed from Saturday to Wednesday evening -Mr. and Mrs. SANDES and Miss Pearl HASKINS are visiting friends and relatives at Coloma and Dakota. -Miss Nellie SHAFER and Miss Lillie FOAT are attending school at Kilbourn. -Mr. CHURCHILL's friends got him up a nice wood pile one day last week. -Mr. TOMLINSON of Fond du Lac has bought a house and lot of Mr. DAVISON and will take possession about the first of March. -Miss Clara PEEK is spending the winter with her brother in Chicago. -Mrs. PALMER from Portage is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob FOAT. Adams Center -The thermometer has marked considerably below zero for the last few days. -Mr. Chris. WITT was seen on the streets of this burg the first of the week. -Mr. and Mrs. Horace HOUGHTON returned from Chicago, where they had been visiting relatives. -Mr. Fred. KLAUS made a business trip to Easton Tuesday evening, returning the 19th. -The young people of this place enjoyed a social dance at Mr. GALSTON's last Tuesday evening. -Mr. Bill QUINN was seen on the streets of this place last Tuesday. -Mr. George SHAW has bought a farm one mile south of this place. -Miss Anna KLAUS returned to Westfield last week. -Mr. SHAW expects to move into Mr. ADAMS' house in the near future. Point Bluff -Mrs. C. JOHNSON, who had been visiting her daughter in Michigan, has returned home. -Miss Daisy CAPRON visited Miss Etta JOHNSON last week. -Miss Viola CUMMINGS has the whooping-cough quite hard, rather worse than anyone else at the Bluff, where nearly every child has it. -Mr. Gene REYNOLDS has been visiting Geo. REYNOLDS for one time. -Mrs. Hugh DONNELLY has returned from her visit with her daughter, Mrs. J. COLLINS, at Waukesha. -Mrs. C. COOK visited at Kilbourn last Saturday. Coonville -J. D. ANDERSON has returned home from his visit in Chicago. -Print COON killed a fox Friday, which will be sent to Milton to the naturalist, to be mounted for Elder Geo. W. HILLS. -Martin ANDERSON has traded his place for Chicago property. -A few young people from this place visited with friends on Hungry Hill, Monday evening.
