Local Brevities -H. A. MERRIMAN, of Lincoln, is in town today (Thursday) -Harry PIERCE and Roy WRIGHT each ride a new bicycle. -M. E. LAWRENCE had a horse badly cut on a pitchfork last Tuesday night. -Born, to Mr. and Mrs. L. M. REINE of Quincy, March 29th, 1897, a daughter. -Chas. RICHARDS, of Packwaukee, visited at J. W. GUNNING's last Monday. -Co. Supt. J. P. LEWIS is conducting teachers' examinations at the Court House in this village. -Mrs. C. R. SICKLES, who has been ill for several weeks, has not been feeling so well for the past few days. -Mrs. GREEN, who has been caring for the sick at Mrs. SCHIEBER's returned to her home at Adams Center last Monday. -Mr. Geo. WAIT has been suffering with rheumatism the past week, and most of the time has been confined to the house. -Mr. John HOPPER, who had been attending school at Valparaiso, Ind., returned to his home in this village on Saturday last. -Two young men, having 12 years' experience in farming, want to get places to work on farms. ROSYPAL, Friendship, Wis. -Lewis BROOKS, of Pilot Knob, was in town Monday, and called at this office long enough to renew his subscription to the Press and New York Weekly Tribune. -Mrs. John P. LEWIS and Mrs. WILLARD, of White Creek, were in the village on Saturday last. We understand that Mr. and Mrs. LEWIS intend to move to Friendship in the near future, and will occupy part of the house owned and occupied by Mr. B. B. CLARK. -Dr. BARBOUR, Dentist, of Mauston, has made dates in this vicinity as follows: Will be at Arkdale April 15th, and will remain three days: at Coloma Station April 19th and 20th, and Friendship April 21st and remain four days. THOMAS, of Friendship, preaching a very interesting sermon at Pleasant Prairie school-house Sunday evening. -Fred HOSKINS has his new house nearly finished. -Mr. Ed FORBUSH, who has been visiting friends and relatives in this place, returned to his home in Tomah Saturday. -Born to Mr. and Mrs. Jesse RATHBURN March 22nd, a girl. -We understand that W. FORBUSH has rented his farm, and intends to start for South Dakota in the near future. -Len PATRICK has so far recovered from the La Grippe as to able to be out again. -E. MILLER made a trip to Westfield Monday. -Mr. C. CAVANAUGH, Sr., and Bert NOTHWAY are on the sick list this week. -The question to be debated Thursday evening is: Resolved that the Revolutionary war was a greater benefit to this country than the Civil war. HUBBS was seen on our streets Sunday. -Mr. and Mrs. Daniel CAVANAUGH, who have been visiting friends in this place for the past week returned to their home in Necedah Saturday. Sharkey Plainville -W. R. ATCHERSON, of Friendship, visited here on Friday and Saturday of last week. -G. R. COOK made a business trip to the Prairie the first of the week. -Mr. and Mrs. W. WALKER visited with her sister, Mrs. C. H. BARRETT, on Sunday. -Died, on Sunday, of typhoid pneumonia, Rollin, the 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. WARD. Funeral Tuesday afternoon, Rev. TURNER, of Kilbourn officiating. -Election next Tuesday. -Mrs. LAWRENCE and family leave this week for Eau Claire. -Our school commences the 12th of April. White Creek -Fine spring weather. -Mrs. MARDEN and daughter, Kittie, have returned from Baraboo. -Mr. Forrest METEYARD and wife expect to leave here for the summer. -The O. M. S. met at Arbutus Mound last Saturday afternoon, and had a very interesting meeting. -The young people enjoyed a very pleasant evening at Mr. JENCKS' last Friday night. -Mr. ROE and family, from Quincy, were guests at Mrs. N. A. METEYARD's last week. -Mr. WING's people expect to move to Oxford in the near future. -Mrs. HOWARD is on the sick list. -We hear that several of our young men expect to go west this spring. -Mr. Butler STOWELL is very poorly. -A very pleasant surprise was experienced at the parsonage last Thursday. Rev. Calvin ROBINSON, of Adams Center, and Miss Lulu WOODRING, of Davis Corners, were married. The bride is a very fine young lady, and has many friends. We all know Mr. ROBINSON and his many good qualities. Their many friends join in wishing them a long and happy life. -Mr. and Mrs. CLAPP attended the wedding. Wild Rose -Miss Verna WALRATH visited at Glen last week. -Born, to Mr. and Mrs. BUYERS, March 18th, a son. -Mr. Clarence WINTERSTEIN returned to his work at La Crosse Wednesday. -Misses Ethel WILLARD and Nellie SCHAFER visited at J. WINTERSTEIN's during teachers' examination at this place. -Mr. Fred KLAUS, of Adams Center, attended the party at Mr. JENCKS' Friday evening. -Messrs. L. SCHAFER and J. WINTERSTEIN made a business trip to Friendship on Thursday of last week. -Mrs. S. WALKER has recovered from an attack of la grippe. -Mr. Frank FERRIS made a pleasure trip to Plainville Friday afternoon. -Messrs. Dell and Grant WHITE called on friends in this place Thursday. -Mr. M. CROSS, of New Lisbon, has been hired by Mr. ZWICKY to make American cheese at his factory this summer. -Mrs. T. DUNN visited her sister at Twin Valley, Saturday. -Mr. and Mrs. Geo. OAKES visited the lady's parents, Sunday. -Miss Alice BERGMAN returned home from her visit at Glen, Wednesday. -Misses Grace and Mabel WINTERSTEIN visited at Twin Valley and Dell Prairie the first of the week. -Mr. ALVAH AUSTIN has been ill for the past week. At the present writing, he is recovering. Fancy Free Twin Valley -We received a nice rain Sunday evening which greatly improved the condition of the roads. It begins to look as though farming would soon commence. -Mrs. M. J. BACON, of Olin, will soon have her new house completed if the weather remains favorable. The masons have been there to look over the job and will begin work soon. -Rollin WARD, aged about 12 years, son of Charles and Georgiana WARD, who has been very sick for the past week with typhoid pneumonia, died Sunday evening at 8:30 o'clock. He was buried in the Olin cemetery Tuesday afternoon. His sister, Little Mamie, who is also very sick is not expected to live. -O. S. ATCHERSON and J. C. EDMONDS sawed a nice pile of wood for N. L. WOOD on Monday. -Mrs. C. LAWRENCE has sold her household goods, and she and her daughters started for Eau Claire Wednesday instead of Monday as they expected. -Charley BILLINGS, who has been at home for some time, returned to his work on the railroad, on Thursday last. -Mr. and Mrs. J. W. CUMMINGS visited the lady's brother, Elmer BACON, Sunday. -Ernest GOFF, who lives near Davis Corners, visited his brother, F. L. GOFF, Sunday. -Mrs. N. L. DUTCHER, of Olin, is working for Mrs. METCALF, of Gales Corners. -Sam CUMMINGS was home for a short visit last week. -Mr. and Mrs. A. D. BILLINGS were seen driving through our street Sunday. -Mr. and Mrs. KETCHUM, of Point Bluff, attended church at Plainville Sunday afternoon. -Homer BILLINGS, who has been attending school at Endeavor, returned home this week. Jonesville -Herbert MASON bought an organ of Dean last week -Bill PARKS bought an organ of White. -We hear that Mat LANDGRAFF is going to Nekoosa. -Norman JONES and Will CROTHERS are candidates for chairman in Jackson. -Miss LEWIS, of White Creek, gave a fine school exhibition at the McCLYMAN schoolhouse Friday night. -Deacon REID is able to ride out again. -Frank FENNER has taken J. H. HUBBARD's farm for one year. -Dave REID has moved in with Scott KEACH. -You can see a smile on every republican face now, and even the sheep do not act as if they expected to move in shoddy society much longer. A. P. Accurate. Point Bluff -Mrs. Geo. AGER, and Jessie and Mary, visited friends in Twin Valley last week -Messrs. EDMONDS and ATCHERSON are busy sawing wood in Twin Valley this week. -N. C. WOOOD has bought a new team of Samuel HOY, of Easton. -Mr. and Mrs. Victor BLAZSYK, attended the funeral of the lady's brother Tuesday. -Mr. N. C. WOOD expects a painter up from Kilbourn soon to paint his house. -Miss Anna BACON has been home for some time. Big Spring -Died, Wednesday, March 24, 1897 Herbert E.
