Local Brevities -Westfield celebrates on Saturday, the 3rd of July. -Judge KEYES and M. C. SMITH made a tip to Point Bluff on Tuesday. -Blueberries have appeared in market, selling at 10 cents a quart. -A. F. and J. B. HILL were visitors at Necedah the first of the week. -H. A. HOWARD, of White Creek, was a visitor in Friendship on Tuesday. -Mrs. Jane WAIT and Miss Carrie LAPHAM are visiting friends at New Chester. -Rev. J. A. THOMAS is absent this week, singing with the Cheney male quartette. -Mrs. Oscar FOLLETT and two children, of Delton, are guests at the home of Register McCONICK. -There will be services at the Congregational Church next Sunday morning at the usual hour. -The Y. P. S. C. E. of this place elected officers last Saturday evening, and then adjourned for three months. -There will be mass celebrated at the Roman Catholic Church next Sunday (July 4th) conducted by Rev. KASPERSKI. -Mr. ROURKE, the expert accountant who had spent several days in Friendship, returned to his home in Grand Rapids last Monday. -There is some prospect that the telephone line may be extended in the near future from Friendship, by way of Arkdale, to Necedah. -Road Superintendent HOARD has been busy with relays of men this week, repairing his own and other people's ways-high and other ways. -Grass-hoppers have made their appearance in great numbers in some places, and some fears are entertained that they may injure the crops. -Mr. and Mrs. A. S. WATERMAN and Mr. and Mrs. Emmett BULLIS, of Kilbourn, were the guests of the editor's family during the reunion last week. -Mr. and Mrs. F.B. Hamilton and grandchildren, Frank and Emma Hamilton, of Hancock, were among the many in attendance at the reunion last week. -Rev. Staples, of Plainfield, preached at the church in this village, last Sunday evening. He is visiting his daughter, Mrs. Jas. Stowe, in this place. -The Easton Band is preparing for a big celebration at Easton on the fifth of July. Rev. C.W. Turner, of Kilbourn, will deliver the address at ten o'clock in the forenoon. -Miss Tilda Holm, who had been attending the Normal School at Whitewater during the past year, arrived in this village on Thursday of last week, to spend her vacation with her mother, Mrs. R.B. Holm. -Tremendous rainfalls occurred in this section last Tuesday and the earth received a thorough wetting. Never did vegetation grow more rapidly than now, and farmers are made happy by the hope of fine harvests. -Under the law, the annual meeting in each of the common school districts of the state, where not otherwise directed by a vote at the annual meeting of the district in 1896, is to be held on Tuesday evening, July 6th. -D. L. McConick, of Big Spring, father of the Register of Deeds, came up on Thursday of last week, took in the reunion, and spent the rest of the week making time pleasant for his old-time friends in this center of revolving interests. -Mrs. Mary Goldsmith, who was divorced from her third husband on the 8th of June, not at all deterred by past results in matrimonial ventures, was married again a few days ago to a Mr. Bradley, a homesteader in the town of Big Flats. -John Daly came down from Grand Rapids last Friday and visited until Sunday, a guest at the home of M. C. Smith. Mrs. Daly and children who had been visiting there for several days, accompanied Mr. Daly on his return home. -Mrs. J. A. Wilber and Miss Irene Wilber are expected home on Friday of this week. Miss Irene has spent the winter in Western Springs and Chicago, and Mrs. Wilber has been visiting at the above named places and in Michigan for several weeks. -Haying on the cultivated marshes will begin next week. The average crop will be fair. On those marshes which were thoroughly tilled before being seeded, the grass appears to be fine and heavy, while, in some instances at least, the slipshod manner of seeding is giving the usual returns to that kind of cultivation. -The next reunion of the Veterans and Sons of Veterans' Association of Adams, Marquette and Waushara counties, will be held at Westfield in 1898. The following are the officers for the ensuing year: President, S. D. Forbes; Secretary, W. P. Fuller; treasurer, John Crawford; Vice President for Adams, Frank Higbee; Vice President for Marquette, C. E. King; Vice President for Waushara, Benn. Elliott. School Report Report of White Creek district No. 1: Number enrolled, 35; average daily attendance, 33; number days taught, 59. Margaret MARDEN, Teacher Corporation Organized The organization of the Kilbourn and Friendship Telephone Company was completed last Tuesday. The meeting for the purpose of perfecting the organization by the election of officers, was held at the office of S. W. PIERCE at 7 o'clock in the evening. All the out of town stock subscribers were present or represented by duly appointed proxies. The following officers were unanimously elected: President, S. W. PIERCE, Friendship; Vice-President, H. A. HOWARD, White Creek; General Manager, Wm. J. BELL, Baraboo; Secretary, Jas. E. JONES, Kilbourn City; Treasurer, A. F. HILL, Friendship. Directors: Dr. H. F. FREDRICK, Friendship; Dr. D. T. NICOLL and F. H. MARSHALL, Kilbourn City; J. W. GUNNING; E. KNIGHT and W. R. ATCHERSON, Friendship. On motion the General Manager and Secretary were directed to prepare a draft of by-laws for the government of the affairs o the corporation to be submitted to the directors at their next meeting. The meeting then adjourned, the directors to meet at the call of the President and Secretary. From Local Correspondents Point Bluff -Several of the young people, from here went to White Creek Sunday evening to attend the Christian Endeavor meeting. -Mr. Ab. CUMMINGS is still very sick. There is but very little hope of his ever being better. -The blueberries will be very scarce around here this summer. The frost struck them when in bloom. -It rains nights and Sundays for the benefit of hired men. Big Flats -Hurrah for the Fourth of July! -Robt. REID and Otis GRAY started for the north Sunday last, on a fishing excursion for the summer. Before they return, they ill visit Marshfield, Chippewa Falls, Wausau and Glenflora. -Quite a number from here attended the reunion, and all report a very nice time. -Miss Kate MATTHEWS is the happy possessor of a new organ. -Mr. Wm. McFARLIN and family called at A. REID's while on their way home from Nekoosa. -Mr. and Mrs. J. GRAY and little daughter started Saturday for Belmont after their son Fred and his wife. -Otis HOLCOMB was seen on the Flats Sunday. Pilot Knob -Mr. and Mrs. Fred. SMITH left on Tuesday of last week for Chicago, and from there will go to California to make their home. -Mrs. J. STODDARD started on Wednesday of last week for Bancroft, to visit her sister, Mrs. H. MYERS. -Miss Cora HAWKINS has gone to Nekoosa to visit friends. -Ladies' Aid Society meets on Friday of this week with Mrs. J. POWELL. -The Misses Lena and Myrtle MYERHOFFER visited at home on Sunday last. -The Children's Day exercises in this place on Sunday, the 13th, were splendid, the children speaking their pieces so nicely. -Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Will CARDO, June 14th, a son. -Mrs. H. SMITH who has been to Clark county visiting friends, returned home on Friday of last week. -Mrs H. MORGAN is again able to do her own work. -Mr. and Mrs. C. C. WYMAN, of Strongs Prairie, have been visiting friends in this place. -Mr. and Mrs. ABBOTT; the Crusaders, are visiting with friends here. White Creek -John FISHER is visiting his mother and grandmother. -Archie DEWEY visited friends in Oxford last Saturday and Sunday, and is now visiting his mother and other friends in Easton and White Creek. -Rev. MARDEN has been sick, but is better at the present time. -We have a telephone now, but people are never satisfied, now we want a railroad. -All who went from here to the reunion at Friendship say it was the best they ever attended. Friendship is a good place to go. Everyone always enjoys going there, for the people have a way of making it so pleasant for visitors. -Maggie MARDEN closed her school with a picnic last week. -Mr. and Mrs. Frank WITT visited at Easton last Sunday. -Mr. and Mrs. BERRY, of Portage, were calling on friends here last week. -A Fourth of July celebration at Easton the fifth. -Rumor says there is to be another lodge started in White Creek soon. -The Woodmen are taking in new members in their lodge at nearly every meeting. -Christian WITT is very busy just not. He is having some first class work done on the roads, and especially the bridge by the mill. -Corn is growing so fast, one can almost see it grow; so are the weeds. If this weather continues we will surely have a corn crop this year. -The Easton Band will try to make everything pleasant at Easton the fifth, and the way to have a good time is for all to join and each try to make others happy. -Mr. WILSON visited Sunday at Mr. DOUGLAS's in Springville. Louis MARCHETTI is the Register Mary GREENMAN the guardian for the heirs of Albert DECORAH who was homesteading is making the claim for the deed for the heirs.
