
Saturday, May 8, 1897 From Local Correspondents White Creek -Mr. Clark, of Delton, was the guest of Mr. C. METEYARD last week. -Mark McCHESNEY visited at F. H. METEYARD'S one day lat week. -Miss Grace GAVANAUGH, of New Chester, was calling on friends last week. -The remains of Courtland HAMILTON were taken from the cemetery here and interred by the side of his wife in the Delton cemetery. -Arbor Day was observed here. -E. JENCKS visited Kilbourn one day last week. He was accompanied by his sister-in-law, Mrs. J. JENCKS of New London. -The funeral of Mrs. Ab. CUMMINGS was largely attended by relatives and sympathizing friends. She was laid at rest by the side of her mother who was buried only a short time ago. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. (Page 4, Column 3) -Alfred HOWARD has gone to Dakota. His wife will go as soon as he locates. -F. METEYARD and wife visited at Delton the first of the week. -Newel CARPENTER returned from Baraboo Monday. He had been visiting his brother. -F. METEYARD and wife visited at John BIDWELL's in New Chester, last Sunday. A.M. Roche-a-Cris Ripples -F. M. FILKINS, of Strongs Prairie, agent for farm machinery, was in these parts last week. -A. D. BROOKS visited Friendship last Monday. -O. M. HOLMES took a trip to Grand Rapids last Saturday. -Miss Rilla GLEASON returned to her home in Spring Creek last week. -Miss Myrtle TAYLOR led her school to Arbutus Mound on the afternoon of Arbor day, where they gathered quantities of the sweet scented beauties and evergreens to decorate the school room. -Arbor Day in the Hamilton district was devoted to planting trees and flowers, and appropriate exercises followed. -Mrs. BLANCHER, of Monroe Center, is spending a week or so with his granddaughter, Mrs. F. C. COURTER. -Mill Mary HALSTEAD of Easton, spent last week among friends here. -Mr. P. MOSAR has a frame up for an addition to his house. -Mr. BAKER has a frame up for a new house. -C. H. KNOWLES had the misfortune to cut his foot a few days ago. -Rye is quite badly winter killed about here. -Spring is extremely slow to her advancing footsteps. Nameless Big Flats -Dr. FREDRICK was called Sunday to see Mr. Fred GRAY, who is quite sick. -Supt. J. P. LEWIS visited school Monday. -Under-Sheriff Ernest SMITH made a business call in town Monday. -Mr. and Mrs. Jas. SHURTLIFF, of Barnum, visited at H. SHURTLIFF's Sunday. -There was a dance at Mr. A. RAYMER's Friday night. -Mr. Eugene WILSON, of Leola, was in town Monday. -Mr. S. F. LEWIS, of Friendship, passed through this place on his way to Grand Rapids, Tuesday. Mrs. LEWIS visited at H. W. Shipway's. Dorothy No. 2 Spring Bluff -House-cleaning and farming are the order of the day, and May baskets the order of the night. -The following teachers have commenced their schools: Rosetta SLAGLE at Spring Bluff, Lizzie STEVENSON at Pleasant Prairie, Irma PRESTON in the Diamond district, and Amanda McFARLIN at Buckhorn. -The dance at S. DEMOTT's was largely attended and all report a pleasant time. -Report says that Bert NORTHWAY is married to a young lady of Indiana. -Mr. and Mrs. Chas. DEMOTT, of Oxford, visited with Mrs. DEMOTT's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus. ISELIN, on Easter Sunday. -Miss Sarah McMAHON starts for South Dakota next week, where we understand she has a school engaged. Sarah is one of Adams county's most successful teachers and has a large circle of friends who wish her the same success in Dakota as she has had in Wisconsin. Glen -Our school is progressing nicely with Miss SHAFER as teacher. -Alverado HECOCKS and family expect to start for Arkansas on Wednesday or Thursday of this week. -The cheese factory started May 3. -Mr. WOODRING's family are now occupying their new house. -Mrs. WHITE's friends are glad to see her again able to ride out. -Sam. STANFA?EE (Stampflee?)has gone to Lark (Clark?) county to work for the summer. -Mrs. TOMLINSON has a new pump and expects to have a windmill put up during the week. -Mr. BUSS lost a horse Monday. -Carl GAFFNEY has the measles. -Herbert FOAT has gone to Illinois to work for Mr. NOGLE. -Mrs. HUTCHINSON and two children spent Saturday and Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Dell FOAT. -Mr. MALARKIE has bought a piece of land of J. WORTHY, and is preparing to build on it. Point Bluff -Mrs. L. BONNELL and her two children, who have been having the measles, are gaining slowly. -Rufus KETCHAM and Lucy JOHNSON have been having the measles very hard, but are much better. -Born, to Mr. and Mrs. W. JOHNSON, May 1, a daughter. -Oh, such a lovely arbutus as blooms this spring! -Mr. DYER and family have moved away. -Ira BULLIS of Kilbourn, was spinning along our streets last Sunday. -Mrs. Edith CUMMINGS expects to return to her school next Sunday. Jonesville -Jonesville school started up again Monday. -Measles still rage. -Norm. Jones drives the north milk route for the Davis Corners factory this summer. -T. G. BURNHAM and F. JENCKS were talking cheese in this ville last week. -H. BURGDORFF and family visited at Tom KENNEDY's Sunday. -T. K. McCLYMAN has rented part of his farm to Walter WOHLFERT. A. P. Accurate Legal Notice -Iver OLSON's estate is in probate and his son has petitioned to be admistrator. His son's name is Ebert? Olson. Local Brevities -E. KNIGHT ahs purchased a fine new surrey. -Mrs. Jos. WILBER and Miss Mame visited at Easton last Monday. -L. E. KNIGHT, of ARKDALE, was a Friendship visitor last Sunday. -H. NYHUS, of Strongs Prairie, was a Friendship visitor on Wednesday. -Millet seed 70 cents per bushel. J. HILL and Son -Dr. DUCLOS, of Kilbourn, visited Friendship last Monday on professional business. -Mrs. SICKLES condition does not seem to improve, and is regarded as very critical. -The FITCH family have returned and are occupying the WAIT house, south of town. -A road wagon, or spring wagon, or top buggy, at car load prices, at Hansen, Snider & Co's. -S. W. PIERCE made a business trip to Kilbourn last Monday, returning home that evening. -Fine strawberry plants, sixty cents per 11 at M. F. Hammond's, Strongs Prairie, Wis. -Mr. Chester GRAY, of Coloma, was a visitor in Friendship on Tuesday, attending to some business matters. -L. H. NILES, of Quincy, visited Friendship last Tuesday, accompanied by a friend from another county whose name we have forgotten. -The Sunday School Association will convene at the Congregational Church in Jackson, May 27 and 28, 1897. -Notice the call for meeting of the Directors of the Adams County Agricultural Association at the Court House Saturday, May 22nd. Be sure to attend. -Mr. RORK, the accountant, having completed the investigation in the office of the county treasurer, returned to his home at Grand Rapides on Saturday last. -It is expected that the work for setting the poles for the Friendship and Kilbourn telephone line will begin in earnest next week. Hoilo! Brother Jones; how is it? -The cold weather has made the trout fishing poor so far this season.
