Local Brevities
Mr. PIERCE made a visit to his family and friends on Saturday last. He left again on Monday.

Arthur M. KINGSBURY "lit out" from Friendship, on the morning of the 4th for Poynette, where
he expects to remain some ten months. He went in company with his friend and guardian S. W.
PIERCE, carrying with him the good wishes of this community.

The "powers that be" advise that we drop the "personal" side of that temperance question, which
advice we cheerfully accept. As there is no likelihood of another lodge being started here, to
be followed by another miserable failure, a discussion of the question would occupy space that
could be filled with more interesting matter.

Mr. Roswell W. STOWELL, and old resident of this town, and well known to every one in this
vicinity as one of our thrifty farmers, died on Wednesday morning at 7 o'clock. We hear of
the death at too late an hour to make further comments. We presume some one of his numerous
friends will hand us an obituary notice for next week's paper.

W. M. WRIGHT has rented the Bacon House at White Creek village, "for one night only"-Friday,
the 22d of February, where he intends to have the biggest and best dance, and the finest music
ever had on a similar occasion in Adams county. The inevitable oyster will be served up, with
other goodies; and the bill, including everything, will be only $1.00. Wright needs no puffing
from us. He has run the dancing machine so long that all his patrons know just what to expect.
