
From the Stevens Point (Wisconsin) Daily Journal January 17, 1936 Mrs. John DeWitt Funeral services for Mrs. John DeWitt, 75, who died last Saturday morning at 9:45 o'clock after a short illness at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Stainbrook, 10 miles northwest of Plainfield, were held Monday afternoon at the Congregational church at Hancock. Rev. W.W. Woodard of Wild Rose conducted the services and burial followed in the Leola cemetery. During the services a solo, "The Old Rugged Cross" was sung by Frank Hamilton and a duet, "Jesus Lover of My Soul," was sung by two women of the church. These hymns were favorites of Mrs. Dewitt. Mrs. DeWitt, whose maiden name was Lena Stoker, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stoker was born in Germany on November 28, 1880. She came to this country at the age of seven. Her marriage to John Stainbrook took place on November 10, 1874. Mr. Stainbrook died on July 4, 1897. They were the parents of 10 children four of whom survive, Tillie, now Mrs. J. L. Bates, of Plainfield; Daisy, now Mrs. F. H. Foagate, of Waupaca; Dennis Stainbrook of Bancroft, and Henry Stainbrook of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Those preceding their mother in death were Hattie, Lester, Joseph, Katie, Elvina and George. Her marriage to John DeWitt of Hancock took place in 1901. The couple continued to live at Hancock after their marriage until the death of Mr. DeWitt on November 24, 1930. Surviving besides the sons and daughters are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Printha Stainbrook and a step-daughter, Mrs. Delia Weinbauer, both of Wisconsin Rapids; four step children, Jesse DeWitt of Wild Rose, Henry DeWitt of Madison, Mrs. Flossie Smith of Coloma and Mrs. Maude Ferris of Ladysmith, 18 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Delia Weinbauer, Mrs. Printha Stainbrook, Mrs. Harry Gibbs, Miss Edith Stainbrook, Mrs. Delia Atwood, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Stainbrook, Mrs. Lottie Krueger, Orabelle Knudson, Mrs. Henry Giese and Mrs. May Grosse and daughter, all of Wisconsin Rapids; Mrs. and Mrs. Lester Bates and Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Bates of Plainfield; Mr. and Mrs. Ford Fosgate, Elnora Fosgate, Donald Fosgate and Harold Fosgate, all of Waupaca; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Stainbrook and children, Burl, Glen, Arleigh, Betty June, Russell and Darline and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Chamberlain, all of Bancroft; Mr. and Mrs. Jessee DeWitt of Wild Rose; Mr. and Mrs. Henry DeWitt of Madison; Mrs. Flossie Smith of Coloma and Mrs. Maude Ferris of Ladysmith.
