ROUS Family Reunion

From the Adams County Press, July 29, 1893, Page 5

A family reunion was held at the residence of I. C. ROUS in the town of Preston,
Thursday, July 20, 1893, in honor of his 80th birthday. Three children, fourteen
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren besides other relatives were there to
join in the festivities. A party of 11 arrived the evening of the 19th from Grand
Rapids and Centralia, consisting of N. H. POTTER and family, Mr. J. MARGESON and
wife and her two sons, Hiram and George ROUS, and Mrs. PALMATIER and two children
who in spite of the intense heat enjoyed the journey somewhat, having a picnic
dinner by the roadside under the shade of a beautiful oak grove. Mrs. S. S. ROUS
arrived the same evening from Coloma, accompanied by her two children, and F. M.
ROUS and family, of Spring Creek, came the following morning, also several other
relatives.

At 2 p.m. a bountiful repast was spread under the friendly shade of the tall
poplars in the front yard, 36 being seated and 4 generations represented. At the
head of the table were seated the pleasant faced, venerable couple with faces
aglow with pleasure and contentment, as they glanced down the well-laden table and
saw those most near and dear to them all gathered once more around the paternal board.

Mr. ROUS was the recipient of a beautiful antique oak, patent rocker, an elegant cup
and saucer, and several other useful and beautiful presents. The old house fairly rang
with the merry laughter, fun and frolic of the younger members of the family, while the
older ones were engaged in pleasant conversation.

Mr. ROUS is one of Adams County's earliest settlers, and has lived a life of honor
and industry, and we most kindly wish him many more birthdays with his family and
friends, ere he is called to join the loved ones gone before.

At 7 p.m. the party broke up, adieus were said and the happy day, long to be
remembered by his posterity, was ended. Many thanks are extended to the friends of
E. W. ROUS and wife for the hospitality and kindness extended to all.
