From the Adams County Press, March 11, 1899 Page 5 DIED--TRUMBULL--In Quincy, Adams county, March 4, 1899, Simeon TRUMBULL, aged 79 years and 5 days. Simeon TRUMBULL was born on the 29th day of February, 1820, at Burlington, in the State of Vermont. When quite young he left his native home and went to the State of New York, where for a long time he worked upon the Erie canal, until 1845, when, taking Horace Greeley's advice to young men, he came west and located at Horicon, Dodge county, in this State. Two years later he married Miss Helen ANDERSON of Horicon. In 1856 he moved his family to Quincy in this county, and has resided there ever since. In 1864 he enlisted in the Fourth Wisconsin Light Artillery, and performed faithful and patriotic service for his country until the close of the War of the Rebellion. He was discharged from service at Richmond, Virginia, July 3, 1865. His wife died January 7, 1873, and since that time his home has been cared for by his children, most of the time by his son James. Simeon TRUMBULL was one of that class of men of whom it can truly be said; the world is poorer for their leaving it. In every relation of life he was an example for good. Patient, affectionate, kindly, honest, genial and helpful, the whole community loved and respected him, and feel his loss with genuine sorrow. He leaves four children surviving--Mrs. J. M. FAXON of Oregon, Sealy and Grant TRUMBULL of California, and James TRUMBULL of Quincy. The funeral was on Monday, Rev. Stevenson officiating. Delegations of G. A. R. members from Friendship, Easton and Springville attended, and the remains were laid to rest with the impressive ceremonies of the Order.Back to menu page
