There were three applications for saloon license--Julius KINITZ, Fred
MITTLESTADT and August PLATH. Licenses for the ensuing year were fixed
at $100 to sell liquor by the glass to be drank on the premises, and $50
for a license to sell in bottles or other vessels to be carried away from
the premises. Mr. PLATH has taken out both the $100 and $50 license, and
Mr. KINITZ and Mr. MITTLESTADT only call for the $100 license.
The Board held another meeting on Monday and the $100 saloon license was
granted to Fred LEWERENE, which makes the fourth license granted. At this
meeting it was decided to re-build the sidewalk from A. QUANTIUS' lots to
the lock bridge. Also a new walk from the corner of the rocks to the Express
office. Two new crosswalks, one from the post office to Mrs. BAIRD's
building, and the other from GORSLINE's store to Wm. STRAIGHT's building,
were ordered and have already been completed. The crosswalks were very much
needed, and the Board did a wise thing in ordering them built.
