They are both working very hard to get the best program. The committee for the seniors consists of Martha Town, Evalena Thalacker, and Ruth Dee. The committee for the Juniors consists of Belva Dewar, Beulah Marvin, and Etta Wandry." 3) "The Senior Teachers Training class have finally finished the tedious task of varnishing the seats in the training room. After the scrubbing, sandpapering, staining and varnishing they did, they think they have at last accomplished a result of which they may be proud. The room has been greatly improved. Come and look at it." 4) "A debate, Resolved that the fish hatchery should be located west of Lawrence instead of in Westfield, was held in the Junior-Senior Civics Class Tuesday. The affirmative was taken by Clarence Bursack, Howard Dahlke, William Lieske, and Vincent Dewar; the negative by Irene Schwark, Vivian Baggs, Laura Erdman, and Irma Ward. The debate was won by the affirmative side. Another debate, Resolved that the bus should discontinue service between Stevens Point and Madison, will be held Wednesday." 5) "Esmeralda, given by students of the T.T.C. of the Westfield High School under the direction of Miss Beers was a complete success in every say. The characters are as follows: Mrs. Elbert Rogers - Carroll Leonard; Mrs. Lydia Ann Rogers - Blanche Mills; Miss Esmeralda Rogers - Alene Meinke; Dave Hardy - Vernard Zaske; Mr. Estabrook - Clarence Bartz; George Drew - Harvey Kietzman; Mr. Jack Desmond - Clarence Chesky; Miss Nora Desmond - Lillie Lange; Marquis De Montessin - Harvey Kietzman; Sophia - Evaline Tagatz. Music by High School Orchestra between acts. The proceeds of the evening were $103.05, out of which $20.61 paid for hall rent, $10 for royalty on the play, $3.25 for printing, leaving $69.19 to apply on a monogram piano for the training room. Twenty-two dollars was added to this fund, $2.05 from an ice cream sale conducted by the entire class, $20.16 for candy and lemonade sale sold by the Chautauqua conducted by Alene Meinke, Arline Kruger, Martha Tonn, Evaline Tagatz and Grace Roskie. This makes a total of $91.41 toward the piano." 6) "A Midsummer's Day, the operetta for which the grades have been practicing for some time, was given in the High School auditorium Thursday night. It was attended by a large audience. Miss Krumme and Mrs. Kline directed the production, in which all the grades, from the kindergarten through the eighth grade took part. The characters represented were: flowers, bees, butterflies, fairies, brownies, and the child who was mistress of the garden. They expressed themselves both by singing and dancing. This entertainment shows that much work must have been expended upon it by both the people who took part an the director. Everyone who saw it has spoken of the pleasure they derived from it and of Westfield's good fortune in having such an able music teacher." 7) "The T.T.C. class is out cadet teaching and the reporting this week is left to the Junior T.T.C. It was an excellent performance but they were at their best in the bell ringing work. It was a great pleasure to hear and see them in their songs, impersonation work, character sketches, and stunts." 10) "Several were awarded prized for their Temperance essays and posters. They are the following: T.T.C. Essays: Martha Tonn, 1st, $3.00; Clarence Chesky, 2nd, $1.50; Junior-Senior local contest: Bernice Wagner, 1st, $2.00; Isabel Kerst, 2nd, $1.00; Sophmore-Freshmen County Contest: Mary Eubank, 1st, $2.00; Evelyn Dewar, 2nd, $1.00; 7th and 8th Grades County Contest: Mary Eubank, 2nd, $1.00; Posters, Local High School: Chester Collins, 1st, $1.50; Lillie Lange, 2nd, $.75." 11) "The P.T.A. are fortunate in securing State Superintendent Callahan as a speaker Tuesday evening October 23. The band will also favor us with several selections." 12) "A cantata will be given April 24th at the H.S. by the Glee Club Girls under the supervision of Miss Krumme and Mrs. Kline. The admission is ten and twenty cents - a price every body can afford. It is sure to be a treat so don't miss it. The High School Dramatic club will give a short play entitled "The Obstinate Family," after which there will be a shadow basket social. The baskets will be sold in the three divisions: those in grades below High School; the young people; and the older people."
