Letter From Old Settler E. J. Dartt I came to Montello March 13, 1847, and lived with the Indians one and a half years before any other white settler came to this section of the country. In the year 1848 Jason Daniels and Freeman Holford settled here. B. Baker, the Gideons and the Roberts came in the year 1849. There were more of the old settlers who have passed away and that leaves me the only old settler here. I have lived here most of the time. I was fourteen years old when I came here and was eighty-two years old the 3rd of last June. --E. J. Dartt, Packwaukee Wis.
