[clipping from an unnamed and undated newspaper, probably soon after 16 Apr 1942] Emma Maria Hull, daughter of Henry H. and Caroline Brewster Hull, was born in the town of Buffalo, Marquette county, Wis., July 4, 1858. She received her early education in the rural school and later attended Portage high school and the state normal school at Oshkosh, Wis. As a rural teacher in the surrounding counties, she was very successful for several years. On December 15, 1886, she was married to James Scholes of Moundville, Wis. They immediately settled on the Scholes homestead where they rounded out full lives for fifty years. Her husband passed away Dec. 29, 1936. To this union were born two children: a son, Robert Henry, deceased in 1934; and a daughter, Ruth, now Mrs. Leo Robleske. Mrs. Scholes united with the Presbyterian church in Buffalo, Wis., at an early age. After her marriage she transferred her membership to the Moundville Methodist church where she always took an active interest in its activities. Upon the organization of the Ladies' Aid society she became a charter member, holding various offices. She was also zealous for the missionary cause. She passed away following a brief illness at her home in Moundville, April 13, 1942. The unselfish devotion of Mrs. Scholes to her family and friends was a marked characteristic. L. Litchfield officiating. Ladies in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Max Wade, Mrs. Wm. Audiss, Mrs. Willard Jones and Mrs. Gust Peterson.
