Comments About the Werth Biography

Contributed by George R. Werth

The William Werth of the subject sketch is my Great Grandfather. I have his copy of the source book and, together
with my oldest brother Richard George Werth, have toiled on the Genealogy of the Werth Family.

We have traced it back to a Gottlieb Werth of Schoenow in what was West Prussia. Today it is called Dzwonowo and
is just southwest of Czlopa and is now in Poland since the end of WW II.

The sketch you transcribed contains several errors; William and his brother August landed in New York on the ship
ORPHEUS out of Bremen. The date was 23 August 1856.

William is shown in the 1860 census living in Metomen Township, Fond du Lac County and in the 1870 census in
Mackford Township, Green Lake County.

His wife to be, Fredericke Buegler, landed in New York on 30 September 1856, with her parents. The ship was the
bark WURSATA out of Bremen.

The daughter that died on 18 November 1864 was named Emma. Another son, Emil, was born on 4 September 1870.

If I can be of further assistance, please email your questions(contact information is on the contributors page).
I also have information concerning the following surnames: Luethe and Laper.
