Arkdale in 1871

One of the points of interest in this county is Arkdale, located on the Big Roch-a-Cree, about in the center of Strong's Prairie.
Last week we made a short visit to the place and took occasion to "make a note or two."
We first, as in duty bound to do, called on our old partner in the Press Office, A. N. Higgins, once a good printer but now a backslider engaged in selling calico, sugar, soap and "such-like." How printers will become de-moralized sometimes!
However, we guess, on a pretty free inquiry as to the character of his goods and his prices, that he sells excellent articles at fair living rates.
Then we took a walk down to Woock's store, and found Billy "not at home;" but Mrs. W. was on hand to give us a welcome, and shortly after Mr. W. put in a smiling appearance. We looked over his large stock which he offers at fair prices, and after a pleasant chat left well pleased with our short visit.
Considerable improvements are being made in Arkdale the present season. The people there have just put up a very fine school house. The New Lutheran (Norwegian) Church have the lumber on the ground, and we understand, intend to erect a commodious church edifice during the present season. Two stores and Woock's flouring mill are the principal business institutions of the place at present.
